Thursday 11 April
Today is Thursday the 11 April in the fifth week of Lent.
The community of Taizé sing Dieu ne peut que donner son amour: “God can only give faithful love, tenderness and forgiveness.”
Today’s reading is from the Book of Genesis.
Over and over in the Bible, God offers us a covenant of faithful love. God offers us the chance to find our true identity in relationship with Him. God promises to make our life fruitful. How do you feel as you hear the words of this covenant? Can you feel that this promise, made thousands of years ago to Abraham and Sarah, is also made to you? What would your life look like if it became fruitful in the way God promises?
What part of yourself would you like God to make ‘exceedingly fruitful’?
Only God is completely faithful. The scriptures stress that God’s love endures for ever. Listen to the reading – this great promise of God – again, remembering that it is in God’s nature to be faithful and to keep promises.
Speak to God for a moment now about your response to this promise, about your side of this covenant. What return would you want to make for the gift of God’s faithful love?
