Tuesday 23 June
Today is Tuesday the 23rd of June, in the twelfth week of Ordinary Time.
Come, my way, my truth, my life. As I enter this time of prayer today, I begin by inviting the Lord into my life. I acknowledge my need for God, to show me the way, to teach me the truth, to give me life.
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew 7: 12-14
Jesus said to his disciples:
"In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets.
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it.
For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
“In everything do to others as you would have them do to you.” This is probably one of Jesus’ most famous sayings. He invites us to be as generous in our lives, as God is generous to each of us. How do you treat others? How do you feel treated by others?
“Enter through the narrow gate.” That’s the way to the kingdom of God. What baggage do you need to leave behind, in order to enter by the narrow gate? What do you need to let go of?
Listen to the reading again. How does Jesus suggest that we live this Golden Rule?
Can you ask Jesus for help to leave behind all that clutters your journey, all that holds you back from living your life generously?
