Monday 9 March
Today is Monday 9 March, in the second week of Lent.
David Gungor sings, ‘Have Mercy on Me’ from ‘Work Songs’ by The Porter’s Gate. As you listen, take a moment to pause and meditate on the ways God might be using you to show God’s mercy to others…
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Luke.
Today, we hear Jesus setting out the way that we - as his followers - should treat others. He asks us, as God’s children, to imitate God, treating others as God treats us. What is your experience of God’s love and forgiveness? How do you show this to others?
Loving our enemies, not being quick to judge and forgiving those who don’t seem to us to deserve forgiveness calls for great generosity.
Who do you find it difficult to forgive? Is there anyone you might be quick to judge? Why is that do you think?
Imagine God placing a full measure of goodness in your lap – too much to carry.
What does this generosity look like?... How does it feel to receive it?
Who will you share it with? Think about this as you listen to the reading again.
Spend some moments now asking the Holy Spirit to help you be as generous, open-hearted and forgiving to others as God is to you.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
