the Transfiguration | Tuesday 6 August

Today is Tuesday, the  6 August, the Feast of the Transfiguration, in the Eighteenth Week of Ordinary Time.

The monks of Pluscarden Abbey sing Assumpsit Jesus: ‘Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, and he was transfigured in front of them.’

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Luke.

Moses and Elijah speak with Jesus about his departure.  What do you imagine they might be saying to him?

At that time in his life, what would you be saying to Jesus about the path that he is on?

As you listen again, consider what might be going on for Jesus as he contemplates the likely outcome of his mission; and has these profound experiences on the mountain?

These close friends of Jesus also have a profound experience of God on the mountain.  In time they will share with others what happened.  Can you recall a profound experience of God in your own life?  How might you share something of this with others?
