Monday 8 July

Today is Monday the 8 July, in the Fourteenth Week of Ordinary Time.

The University of Johannesburg Choir sing Ndisondela Kuwe, I come to you in prayer, almighty God. You are worthy to be praised.

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew.

There is a sense of urgency about the leader of the synagogue and the woman who had been suffering for twelve years; they both 'suddenly' appear on Jesus' way.  On the face of it you might expect a person whose daughter had just died and a woman who had suffered for 12 years to be resigned to the worst.  Yet the appearance of Jesus along the road seems to have filled them both with hope despite the hopelessness of their situation.  Can you imagine what gave them the faith and hope to appeal to Jesus for healing?

If only you had the confidence of the synagogue leader and the woman who touched the fringe of Jesus' cloak.  What would you ask for?

Listen to the story again and see which of the two characters you most identify with?  And imagine the story from their point of view.

Is there anything in your own life that you would love to approach a healer with?  Ask for any cure that is needed in your life.
