Today, let yourself see who Jesus is… Walk with him and the disciples into the mountains… Feel your laboured breath… Sense your muscles as they strain… Set aside your worries and cares to focus on putting one foot in front of the other… Follow in Jesus’ footsteps wondering what you will find at the summit…
Luke 9:28-31
Jesus took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Stand at the top of the mountain… Take in the view of the land that surrounds you… the patchwork of fields… the glistening sea… the distant villages… Enjoy for a moment the beauty of nature… Turn to Jesus and spend a while basking in his radiant light… Notice how he is not set apart from the beauty of nature… but stands tall as nature’s most beautiful fulfilment…
As you see Jesus for who he really is, feel him give you permission to be yourself… You have spent long enough hiding your darkness from other people… now realise that you have also been hiding your light… Ponder the joy that you have kept bottled up… the creativity that you have kept under lock and key… the tenderness that you have been guarding from others… Imagine what it would be like to share your light with the world…
See now how this moment of transfiguration gives Jesus the courage to take another step forward on his journey to Jerusalem… Let this be your moment of transfiguration… Resolve that it is to be a moment of no return… Feel Jesus’ own courage swell within you… Speak to him about the courage you need to be yourself… and continue on life’s journey…
You have given all to me
To you, Lord, I return it
Everything is Yours, do with it what You will
Give me only Your love and Your grace,
That is enough for me.
Amen.
