Saturday 2 March 2024

Welcome to the Saturday Examen.

In one of our readings this week, we heard the words of the prophet Jeremiah:

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
 whose trust is the Lord.
They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.

Imagine today that, as you come to pray, you come to meet with Jesus as he sits beside a quiet flowing stream.

As we continue in prayer, we will hear some of the words from scripture from the past week. Remain with Jesus by the stream as you listen together.

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Come now, let us argue it out,
 says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
 they shall be like snow;

The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

I the Lord test the mind
 and search the heart.

But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.

Continue now, by the stream, speaking with the Lord about these lines of Scripture. Share with him the one which most spoke to you today.

You might want to talk with the Lord about the past week. Perhaps tell him where you felt closest to him.

Now share a time with him when you struggled in your faith or felt distant from him.

As you watch the stream flowing in front of you, take time to listen to the Lord. What does he say to you? How would you like to respond?

As our prayer comes to an end, perhaps you take your leave, or choose to remain sitting with Jesus for longer.

You have given all to me
To you Lord, I return it
Everything is yours, do with it what you will
Give me only your love and your grace
That is enough for me
Amen.
