Monday 26 February 2024

Today is Monday the 26th of February, in the second week of Lent.

Psalm 4: ‘When I call, answer me, O God of justice. From anguish you released me. Have mercy and hear me.’ Can I make this my prayer too? As I listen, can I bring myself before God, trusting in his justice, his goodness, his mercy, his faithful love? Can I show the same mercy to others?

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Luke.

Luke 6:36-38

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

‘Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.’

In our reading today, Jesus says, ‘Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.’

Can you see any places where you experienced mercy in your life, recently?

Give thanks for these now.

As you hear the following words, become mindful of your relationships in your daily life:

Do not judge…Do not condemn…Forgive…Give…

Talk with Jesus about those who have come to mind.

As you listen to the reading again, listen out for the words which describe the measure of God’s generosity.

Jesus says, ‘The measure you give will be the measure you get back.’

Jesus isn’t talking about a stingy amount, but a generous measure of blessing poured right into your lap.

Ask Jesus for help today as you seek to be merciful, and to receive His mercy, perhaps in unexpected ways.

You have given all to me
To you Lord, I return it
Everything is yours, do with it what you will
Give me only your love and your grace
That is enough for me
Amen.
