Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
Take a moment to become still and relaxed, but also attentive to the movement of God…
Much of our prayer this week has focussed on the early stages of Jesus’ ministry. He speaks powerfully, and the crowds respond positively. He calls some of them to join him in helping others to know God more fully. In this prayer today, you might think of yourself called by Jesus in this way.
Start with gratitude that you, unlike many of those around you, have come to know God in your own life. Simply give thanks for that for a moment or two.
Now ask God to let you see more clearly how and when he has called you. Ask for this as a gift from God, not something that you have to force.
Once you’ve asked for that clear sight, see what you notice when you think of God calling you. You might remember places where you’ve felt God’s call, people who have helped you to hear and respond to God, some of the results of following that call. Just pay attention to whatever it is that you notice here.
Notice, too, how you’re responding to God now, at this stage of your life. Are you happy with your response at the moment? If so, thank God for that. If not, ask for what you need to respond more fully.
After he has called people, Jesus sends them out as his representatives. As this prayer draws to a close, consider who it is that God is sending you out to in the days ahead. How might you help them to know God better?
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
