Saturday 25 November 2023

Welcome to the Saturday Examen.

As you begin your prayer, notice your surroundings. Is there anything you can do to feel more ‘at home’ and relaxed? Take time to fully arrive.

Now welcome the Lord in your place of prayer. Perhaps imagine him coming to your door, or walking into your room. How do you greet him? Where does he choose to sit?

As he greets you, he asks, “How has your week been?”

Take a few moments to reply, as you summarize in a few honest words about the best things and worst things about your week. Offer all these honest recollections to the Lord.

There will now follow a line from each scripture reading from the past week for you to recall and to notice. Which line most speaks to you today?

What do you want me to do for you?’ He said, ‘Lord, let me see again.’

‘Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, ‘Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.’

Guard me as the apple of your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the violent attack of the wicked.

As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, ‘If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace!

All the people were spellbound by what they heard.

Which of these scriptures most spoke to you during the past week? Which of these readings most draws you today?

Continue now, in your conversation with the Lord, by sharing about these things with him.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
