Welcome to the Saturday examen.
Slow right down.
Find a space in your mind. Put down whatever is in your hands. Let your hands rest.
Take a deep breath and then exhale slowly. Then let your breathing return to its gentle rhythm. Listen to the sound of your breath.
Attend with compassion and care to any pain in your body or any sadness you are carrying in your heart.
Sit, walk or stand in the presence of God. God in this space with you. Allow God to look at you.
Ask God to throw light on your prayer. You might want to ask for a conversation to take place.
Some of this week’s readings have touched on the importance of authenticity, as opposed to hypocrisy. Making simple yet strong choices such as acknowledging a truth; telling that truth; deeply respecting others, putting them first; knowing my weaknesses before a loving God.
Recall a time when you have recognised a truth from God. Share that time with the Lord and give thanks.
Think of a time when you have believed an untruth, or a half-truth. Bring that to the compassionate listening ear of God.
Is there a time when you will be required to speak the truth? Ask for the Holy Spirit’s help.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
