Saturday 5 August 2023

Welcome to the Saturday Examen.

Find a time of quiet space and the best way for your body and mind to become still, so that you can become aware of God’s presence.

This week’s readings have spoken about judgement: God’s judgement of the choices and actions within our lives, and our judgement of and reaction to the words and ministry of Jesus. God does not force us. We are always free to make our own choices. How is the God of love looking at you today?

It may be God’s presence to you or your own absence from God that most strikes you today. How have you been present or absent during this past week? What has principally caused that?

This week began with a Scriptural passage about friendship with God. How has your relationship with God felt this week?

We have heard the parable of the sower and the seed this week. Have you had a sense of where the seed of God’s word has landed in you? Where has that seed flourished and grown? Have you had a sense of some seed falling on barren ground or being choked? Why do you think that is?

Have there been particular graces you have felt you needed this week, or a particular desire to thank God for gifts received? Take some time to reconnect with them.

This week’s readings may have caused you to respond in several different ways, depending on how they have struck you. You may have found that the full expression of what you thought and felt is only now rising to the surface. Whatever your feelings at this point, take time now to say what is in your heart to God, who daily invites us to speak as one friend to another.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
