Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
Allow yourself some space. Breathe in the spaciousness that God provides in these moments. Slow right down.
Ask God to shed light on this time of prayer.
Following directions. This week’s readings have featured clear directions: from God to Abram; from Jesus to his disciples - and to all of us - in His Sermon on the Mount; from an angel sent by God to Peter in prison.
Sit, in God’s presence, with this theme of following directions.
Where have you followed directions this week? It might have been at work, or in a conversation… it might’ve been just a hunch to take a particular path. You might have discerned a way forward, or indeed decided not to move at all. Or you might’ve longed for some kind of direction, and it hasn’t been forthcoming. Invite God to sit with you in that place of sensing direction.
How did it feel to be directed? Or not to feel at all directed? Let God know how it felt. Gladness, sadness, lay it all out before God.
Draw this examen prayer to a close with an expression of thanks to God, who knows the way, and commit your next steps to Him.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
