Tuesday 27 June 2023

Today is Tuesday the 27th of June, in the 12th week of Ordinary time.

CalledOut Music sings, ‘Worst Days’.

God of everything
You reached out to me
Made a home in my heart
I just can't explain
I just stand in awe
Of Your wonderful love
And even on my worst days
It stays the same
I just don't understand
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
Love that knows no end
I'm wrapped up in the arms of my Father
I'll never lose my position
I will always be Your child
That's all that matters
Cuz even on my worst days
It stays the same
I just can't understand
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
Oh it reaches to the depths of my soul and it won't let go
Oh wonderful love
There's no where else I'll rather be, no where else for me
Oh wonderful love
From Calvary to eternity, I'm Yours forever
Oh wonderful love
(Oh Jesus) Your love knows no ending, the Sweetest of tastes
Oh wonderful love
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love
How high
How wide
How deep
Is Your love

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew.

Matthew 7:6,12-14

‘Do not give what is holy to dogs; and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you.

‘In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets.

‘Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Consider the example of Jesus Himself in his words today: how he treated others; how He Himself was treated, even by his friends. How, in His suffering, He entered through the narrow gate. How He held precious the message of love he was bringing. He lived out His words.

How does God treat us? What comes to mind? Not as our sins deserve, for example, as we read in one psalm. Spend a little time resting in these thoughts…

“…. the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” That sounds a challenging journey. Would you say that, on your faith journey, you’re experiencing challenges in order to find life?

As you hear the passage again, hear these commands from Jesus as he taught his followers about His new, radical way of life. Allow Jesus Himself to address you.

In the closing moments you might want to ask God to show you where you need to change. Simply ask God to help you.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
