Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
As you begin your prayer today, imagine the Lord is with you right where you are now.
Where is he sitting or standing?
Take a moment to greet him, then imagine how he greets you.
Now ask the Lord to help guide you through your prayer as you begin to recall your week.
The past week’s readings have been full of challenges.
There now follows a list of some of the phrases from our scriptures, followed by a quiet pause. Let these help you to remember your week of prayer.
If anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well…
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
But anyone who endures to the end will be saved.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Remembering that the Lord is near, talk with him now about one of these scriptures and the impact it has had on you during the week.
As you sit with the Lord, talk with him about the moments in this past week when you felt closest to him giving thanks for these times.
Now recall those moments when you felt most distant. Tell him about these.
Enjoy these last few moments in prayer today, just being with the Lord as one friend with another.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
