Today is Wednesday the 17th of May, in the sixth week of Easter.
Come, my way, my truth, my life. As I enter this time of prayer today, I begin by inviting the Lord into my life. I acknowledge my need for God to show me the way, to teach me the truth, to give me life.
Come, my way, my truth, my life;
Such a way, as gives us breath.
Such a truth, as ends all strife:
Such a life as killeth death.
Come, my light, my feast, my strength;
Such a light as shows a feast.
Such a feast as mends in length,
Such a strength as makes his guest,
Come, my joy, my love, my heart;
Such a joy as none can move.
Such a love as none can part,
Such a heart, as joys in love.
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.
John 16.12-15
‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason, I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Jesus tells his disciples that the Holy Spirit will guide them into all truth.
Where in my life or my community might there be a need for this truth?
What do I want to say to God about this?
I say it now.
Jesus tells his disciples that the Spirit will declare to them the things that are to come. What might Jesus be talking about? How does what he says affect me today?
‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now’. As I listen again, I ponder what these ‘many things’ might be.
In these final moments of silence, I ask the Spirit to lead and guide me in the ways of truth.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
