Saturday 13 May 2023

Welcome to the Saturday Examen.

For these moments I slow right down.

I might adopt a kneeling position, or another position of prayer in which I feel both comfortable and alert to the presence of God.

Or I might simply stand and let God look at me, just as I am.

I might ask how this loving God would describe me.

Begin with a breath prayer for a moment or two. Breathe, in and then out, to the rhythm of the words of Jesus: Abide in me.

Ask God to shed light on your prayer time today.

A number of this week’s readings have focussed on Jesus’ instructions to his friends before his death. He has spoken strong words. He has spoken gentle words. Listen to some of them now:

Peace I leave with you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Do not be afraid.
I am the true vine.
I have called you friends.
Love one another as I have loved you.

Where has God asked you to show love this week?

When has this brought you joy? Give thanks to God.

Were there times when this was difficult? Bring these times to God’s compassionate listening ear.

Think of the times when you will need to show love today… in the coming days. Ask for God’s grace to “love one another as I have loved you.”

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
