Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
Today is the feast of the Annunciation. The angel Gabriel invites Mary to be the mother of God’s Son, and Mary first tries to understand better, and then agrees. Take a moment or two to remember that gospel story as this prayer begins.
In your own words, ask God to show you more clearly what he is asking of you in your own life at the moment.
Recall the last day or two, or perhaps the last week. Can you see signs of God calling you? Who are the people he has led you to meet? What are the situations you have found yourself in?
How have you responded to God during the last few days? Maybe prayer has been important. Maybe you’ve simply been trying to live a good life, living out the gospel message. Thank God for the times when you can see now that he’s been close to you, and you might like to seek his forgiveness for any barriers you’ve put in the way.
Finally, look ahead. What do you most need from God, if you’re going to respond well to him in the days ahead?
You have given all to me
To you, Lord, I return it
Everything is Yours
Do with it what you will
Give me only your love and your grace
That is enough for me.
Amen.
