Today is Wednesday the 8th of March, in the second week of Lent.
Juliano Ravanello sings, Save me, O God. What do these words mean for you today?
(Lyrics currently unavailable)
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew.
Matt 20:17-19
While Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and said to them on the way, ‘See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death; then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified; and on the third day he will be raised.’
The third time of telling… shocked, perplexed…. What emotions arise in me as I hear these words now?
I may have heard this prophecy many more times. In many past sessions of Lent, in studies, in reflection. But which phrase speaks most clearly to me at this time?
In hindsight, and in faith, I have the hopeful certainty of the Resurrection.
As I listen to the passage again, how might I respond as a first disciple?
In prayer I ask the Lord to open my heart and mind to the anticipation of this journey.
You have given all to me,
To You Lord, I return it.
Everything is Yours, do with it what You will.
Give me only Your love and Your grace,
That is enough for me.
Amen.
