Welcome to the Saturday Examen, on the feast of St Agnes.
Today is the feast day of St Agnes, a young woman executed for her devotion to Jesus. She is one of the first martyrs of the Christian faith. Agnes’ faith is an inspiration for each one of us to seek a deep relationship with the God who loves us.
Take time to become still, inviting God to be present to you and to speak to you during this time of quiet.
God accompanies us into the events of this new year. See again how God has been present to you during this time.
As you look back over the week, is there anything that occurs to you about the scripture passages you have heard and prayed with? Did any particular thoughts, desires or feelings arise within your prayer?
There have been a number of different encounters this week. What is your sense of how this week has invited or challenged you? How did you respond to this?
In your daily life, has it been easier or harder for you to respond to God’s word in this past week?
This week’s prayer may have brought about many thoughts or emotions. Perhaps you’ve found it hard to find words to express to God your feelings and desires. Whatever your feelings, have faith, and take time now to say what is in your heart to the God who begins the year with you.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
