Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
As we move to celebrate the coming of Our Saviour, let’s imagine the stillness of the night on which he was born… the brightness of the stars… the chill in the air…. the expectation of a mother and father waiting for their infant to be born…
Now let’s turn our hearts into a little Bethlehem so that we are ready to receive Jesus. As we look back on the week, let’s recognize those moments when we turned God away… those moments when indifference left coldness in the air… those moments when our desire for more and more obscured the meaning of Christmas…
As we reflect, let’s give thanks for those moments when we warmed others with our cheer… those moments when we made room for Jesus in our lives… those moments when we stood, sat or knelt humbly before him in a moment of sheer awe…
As we conclude this time of prayer, let the feelings that have been stirred in you deepen in the presence of God. You might want to speak to Mary, or Joseph, or even the new-born babe. Thank God that he became human just for you, for me and for all of us. Ask God for whatever it is that you need so that you can receive Jesus in your heart this Christmas.
