Today is Wednesday the 7th of December, the feast of Saint Ambrose.
Josh Garrels sings, ‘Come to Him’. Can you bring Jesus all your burdens as you pray today? Coming just as you are…
Come to Him
With all your heart
Come and lay your burdens down
For peace He came to give
And Joy shall be the crown
And Joy shall be the crown
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew 11:28-30
‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’
Jesus recognizes the burdens that many of us carry and knows our need of rest. A yoke helps animals and people carry burdens more lightly. Jesus offers a yoke of faith that lightens what weighs us down. How does it feel to have Jesus offer to lift your burdens and give you rest in him?
Jesus invites us to learn from him. Is there anything in particular that you sense you need to learn at this time?
As we listen to the reading repeated, notice if any words or images strikes you particularly. Is there a part of your life touched specially by God’s word today?
Whether you have responded to the thought of burdens or to the invitation to rest, or any other part of today’s reading, try talking to Jesus now about the thoughts and feelings that it has prompted in you.
