Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
Today the Society of Jesus celebrates a kind of “Jesuit All Saints Day”. Jesuit saints include missionaries, martyrs, teachers, preachers, scholars and administrators. Many of them combined several of these roles. Start this prayer by considering the different roles that you play, the different hats that you wear, in your everyday life.
What unites these diverse Jesuit saints is that they were able to find God in all these various occupations. In the different things that you do day-by-day, where is it usually easiest to experience God as being around? And where is it most difficult?
Pick out one or two times in the last week where you have indeed been aware, or are aware now, of God being around, and remind yourself of what that’s like.
Notice, too, how you responded to God’s presence in those times; or else how you would want to respond now.
Finally look forward to the week ahead. Where might you expect to encounter God in the coming days?
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
