Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
As you arrive for prayer today, become aware of the space around you.
You may like to close your eyes and listen to the familiar sounds around you.
Julian of Norwich described the Lord as being ‘homely’. Can you become ‘at home’ with yourself as you meet with this homely God now? Is there something that you need to help you to do this?
You may like to press the pause button as you go to fetch something or adjust your surroundings.
As you find rest in your surroundings, listen to some words from the Pray as you Go readings from the past week.
Notice which words bring back the most vivid memory from the week or stir something within you.
When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, ‘Woman, you are set free from your ailment.’
What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden; it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.’
‘Honour your father and mother’—this is the first commandment with a promise: ‘so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.’
Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armour of God.
Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles.
Speak with this homely Lord now, as one friend to another, about a scripture or moment from this week where you have felt most present to him.
Was there a time in this past week when you felt distant from the Lord? Talk about this now.
Take a moment to tell God about your feelings about the coming week.
What is it that you most need?
As the prayer comes to an end, consider remaining in the attitude of being at home with the Lord as your day unfolds.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
