Welcome to the Saturday Examen

Take a moment to still yourself by becoming aware of your body. Are there any niggles? Can you feel any pain or discomfort? Perhaps there is one area of your body you feel more relaxed in than usual. Become aware of it all.

One of the readings for the weekend, which we will hear tomorrow, is Elisha ministering to Naaman who wasn’t a member of the Jewish people. Elisha’s insight was that God was bigger than Israel. Bigger, broader, better, than the god of a single nation.

When have you given witness to this biggest and best God? The God that you know? Remember a time when you’ve shared with someone a really good sense of who God is, and enjoy that with God.

The space scientist Carl Sagan once said to Christians, “Your god is too small for my universe”. When in your life have you made this God too small? Whatever comes to you, stay with that for a little while. How is God with you as you remember this?

We are in relationship with the transcendent God who really is God, and we are also in relationship with our own images of God.

What’s the best image of God you can get in touch with right now? Spend a bit of time with that image of God, telling God what’s on your heart.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
