Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
Today the Church remembers a group of Christian martyrs from China, who died early in the twentieth century. We start the prayer by giving thanks for the witness and example of these and other martyrs.
The God to whom the martyrs gave witness is the same God you come before today in prayer. Ask God to show you more clearly where and how he has been present and active in your own life this week.
Now look back gently over the week, noting its lights and shadows, places where you’ve been aware of God, and places where his presence has been obscured.
Notice, too, how you’ve responded to God this week. Give thanks where you’ve responded well. Ask forgiveness for when you’ve failed to do so.
Finally, look forward to the week ahead. What gifts do you need from God to help you give better witness to God in your own life? Ask for those gifts and graces now.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
