The Feast of the Most High Trinity | Sunday 12 June 2022

Today is Sunday the 12th June, the feast of the Most Holy Trinity.

Checko Ankrah and Nicky Lathbridge sing, ‘High and Lifted Up’.
You are worthy to be praised
You are worthy to be praised
You are high and lifted up
You are high and lifted up
You are high and lifted up
Oh Lord
You are high and lifted up
We're surrounded by Your presence, oh God
You are high and lifted up
Your glory fills
Your glory fills the space, oh God
You are high and lifted up
I hear the sound of angels
I hear the sound of Heaven
I see Your glory fill this place, oh God
You are high, You are high and lifted up

Today’s reading is from the book of Proverbs.
Proverbs 8:22-31
The LORD created me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of long ago.
Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth—
when he had not yet made earth and fields,
or the world’s first bits of soil.
When he established the heavens, I was there,
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
then I was beside him, like a master worker;
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race.

St Thomas Aquinas said that it was much easier to say what God was not, than what God is.
Listening to this passage, perhaps it is possible to say that God is creative?
In the Book of Proverbs, Wisdom is the helpmate of the Lord, witnessing and celebrating the birth of all that is. From the beginning, the Lord is not alone. Is this the image you had of God ‘in the beginning’.

As you listen to the passage again, be aware of any words or images that inspire you. Stand alongside and imagine the joy in sharing this wonder, the chaotic and the ordered. Experience God’s ‘rejoicing’.
As the prayer draws to a close, have you discovered anything more about your understanding of God?
As you spend time in prayer on this Sabbath day, share your delight and dreams with the Lord. Feel his blessing upon you. Talk to him about anything that has arisen for you…

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
