Today is Sunday the 29th of May, beginning the seventh week of Easter.
Steffany Gretzinger sings, ‘Open My Eyes’. As you begin to pray, ask the Lord to open your eyes to see His face today…
Open my eyes, Lord
I want to see Jesus
To reach out and touch him
And say that I love him
Open my ears, Lord
And help me to listen
Open my eyes, Lord
I want to see Jesusㅤ
Open my eyes, Lord
I want to see Jesus
Today’s reading is from the book of the Apocalypse.
Apocalypse 22:12-14, 16-17, 20
‘See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.’
Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.
‘It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.’
The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’
And let everyone who hears say, ‘Come.’
And let everyone who is thirsty come.
Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.
The one who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
In John’s vision in the book of Revelation, the eternal Jesus calls everyone to come to him.
As I hear Jesus’ invitation for me, what stirs within me?
In what ways am I thirsty for Jesus?
Who do I most want Jesus to give the water of life to?
I share this desire with Jesus now.
As I listen again, I note the images used for Jesus in this passage. Which one speaks to me most deeply? I hold onto this image, and use it in my prayers.
In these last moments of quiet, I give thanks that Jesus is the beginning and end of all things. I pray that as I come to him, his love will flow through me to others.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
