Today is Monday the 23rd of May, in the sixth week of Easter.
Become still before the Lord now as you listen to ‘Abba Father’ by One Hope Project…
Abba Father breathe on me
Wash me in Your glory
When faith is frail You carry me
In Your presence I am free
Today’s reading is from the Acts of the Apostles.
Acts 16.11-15
We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home.’ And she prevailed upon us.
Paul has responded faithfully to a vision from God calling him to go to Philippi in Macedonia. There he finds people ready and eager to hear about Jesus.
How do I know when God is calling me?
Who do I turn to, to help me discern God’s calling?
What is God calling me to today?
How am I responding?
God opened Lydia’s heart to receive the Good News of Jesus.
As I listen to the passage again, I ask the Holy Spirit to show me with whom I could share Jesus.
In these final moments of prayer, I ask God to open my heart wider - to receive more of Jesus, and to be eager to share him with others.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
