Wednesday 11 May 2022

Today is Wednesday the 11th of May in the fourth week of Easter.

The community of Taizé sing, “We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.”

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.
John 12:44-50
Then Jesus cried aloud: ‘Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness. I do not judge anyone who hears my words and does not keep them, for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive my word has a judge; on the last day the word that I have spoken will serve as judge, for I have not spoken on my own, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment about what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I speak, therefore, I speak just as the Father has told me.’

The very first thing we hear today is that Jesus “cried aloud” his words… Place yourself into the scene, perhaps as an on-looker or passer-by… how does Jesus sound to you? What does his crying aloud sound like?
Jesus’ tone shows great care for the words he is speaking… “Whoever believes…whoever sees…anyone who hears… not to judge…but to save…” how do you receive these words?

Jesus has come as the full envoy and embodiment of His Father…of our Father… As you listen again, hold this in your mind and notice if it stirs anything in you…

In these last few moments, spend some time reflecting on and praying about your own belief… you might like to get in touch with where your own belief in Jesus might reside in your body…in the heart? The lungs or diaphragm…perhaps in the steadiness under your feet… Or maybe from your mind. Pray from that place, speaking to God as one friend speaks to another…

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
