Thursday 31 March 2022

Today is Thursday the 31st of March, in the fourth week of Lent.
One Hope Project sings, ‘Romans 5:8’. This song testifies to the saving work of Jesus. How do you see signs of this in your own life?
It's the blood of the Lamb
With power to save
None too lost
None too broken
None too distant
To be healed by the blood

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.
John 5:31-38
‘If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that his testimony to me is true. You sent messengers to John, and he testified to the truth. Not that I accept such human testimony, but I say these things so that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. But I have a testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father has given me to complete, the very works that I am doing, testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his form, and you do not have his word abiding in you, because you do not believe him whom he has sent.

We hear much about testimony, truth and testifying in today’s passage. How does this all sit with you through the lens of the world we live in today, with fake news, misinformation and so many places for opinions to be voiced and stories to be told?
We hear of “a testimony greater than John’s”. Jesus’ works testify on behalf of his Father… Is there a particular work of Jesus that stands out to you as a testimony of God the Father?

As you listen to the passage again, what most stays with you?
How could you yourself become a living testimony to the work of God? Talk to God about this as we draw this time of prayer to a close…

You have given all to me
To you, Lord I return it
Everything is yours
Do with it what you will
Give me only your love and your grace
That is enough for me.
