Welcome to the Saturday Examen.
Today is the feast of St Joseph, husband of Mary and protector of the infant Jesus. It's surprising that not a single word of his is recorded in the gospels. No doubt though, like Mary, he reflected prayerfully in his heart all that was happening as Jesus grew up. Ask God to prepare you now to reflect on what God has been doing in your own life this week.
First get into the right frame of mind by singling out one thing that you want to thank God for this week, and make a quick prayer of thanksgiving.
Now let the week unfold again before your mind's eye, and let God draw your attention to whatever he most wants you to see.
Notice your response to God in these particular moments. How did you respond to God at the time? How do you want to respond now?
Speak to God of all that you've been shown here, with thanks, praise, sorrow or wonder, or whatever seems most appropriate to you.
End by looking forward to the week ahead. What gift or strength do you most need from God in the coming days?
You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me.
