Today is Tuesday the 8th of March, in the first week of Lent.
One Hope Project sing, 'Merciful Saviour'. As you listen, are there any lyrics that stand out to you in particular?
Today's reading is from the Prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah 55:10-11
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
We sometimes find ourselves asking if God can actually do anything. This reading is intended to reassure us of the certainty that God is successfully at work. How does the image of "rain" and "snow" teach that lesson?
What does the rain do in a dry climate? How do you picture this in your mind? What does the terrain look like? How does the water feel?
"My word… shall not return to me empty". How do these words speak to you today?
Now listen as the passage is read again…
Finally put together all the thoughts that have come to you during this session and direct them as a prayer to God.
You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me.
