Today is Tuesday the 22nd of February, the feast of the Chair of St Peter, in the seventh week of Ordinary time.
Paul Zach sings, 'The Lord Is My Shepherd'.
Today's reading is from the First letter of Peter.
1 Peter 5:1-4
Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it--not for sordid gain but eagerly. Do not lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. And when the chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away.
St Peter here refers to himself as, 'one who shares in the glory to be revealed'. Is this something you could say about yourself, too?
We hear the imagery of a shepherd and a flock today….How do you imagine it? How do you imagine being a part of the flock of God?
Perhaps you have your own portion of the flock of God to tend… you might like to pray for this now. Or perhaps you would like to take a moment to pray for your own church leaders…
Listen again to the reading, carefully noticing St Peter's instructions…
You might like to talk now to the chief shepherd, asking for all you need today, looking towards winning 'the crown of glory that never fades away'.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
