The 6th Sunday of Ordinary Time | Sunday 13 February 2022

Today is Sunday the 13th of February, beginning the sixth week of Ordinary time.

Today's reading is from St Paul's first letter to the Corinthians.
1 Cor 15:12,16-20
Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died.

The reading today fills us afresh with the living hope of Jesus Christ our Risen Lord! This is fundamental to our belief and our hope. Paul writing to the Corinthians, challenges those who do not have this hope, saying their faith is futile without it.
What does faith in the risen Lord Jesus mean to you? Bring any uncertainties you may have to the Lord now.

Our hope in the risen Christ is not just for living our day to day lives on earth, Paul encourages us with an eternal perspective.
How does this eternal view change your perspective? Pray for those who need such hope today; the sick, the dying, the bereaved.

As you hear the reading again, consider what you are putting your hope in?

Desmond Tutu said: "Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." Today our reading celebrates the fact of Jesus conquering death and darkness and sharing his risen life, with you. You might like to end this week of prayer by giving thanks to God, for his risen life in you, now.
