Thursday 21 October 2021

Today is Thursday the 21
October in the 29th
week of Ordinary time.

Sayen Alana sings, ‘Be Still My Soul’.

Today’s reading is from Psalm 1.

Psalm 1

Happy are those
   who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
   or sit in the seat of scoffers;

but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
   and on his law they meditate day and night.

They are like trees
   planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
   and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.

The wicked are not so,
   but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
   nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
   but the way of the wicked will perish.

In your imagination, place yourself into this refreshing scene of trees planted by streams of water…
  Allow God to revive and restore you in this place…
Let the daily distractions simply wash over you.
  Allow yourself to be planted, rooted, in the Lord.

Yielding fruit in its season.
  What fruit am I yielding because my roots are in God?
  The psalmist says: “fruit in its season”, so I might be in a very unfruitful time at the moment.
  Can I stay rooted in God in spite of that?

As you hear the passage again, allow yourself to sit in the presence of God, our God who refreshes and restores…

In these closing moments, talk to God, as one friend to another, about what is on your heart.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
