The 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Today is Sunday the 19 September, beginning the 25th week of Ordinary Time.

Bifrost Arts sing, ‘Wisdom and Grace’.

Today’s reading is from the book of Wisdom.

Wisdom 2:12, 17-20

‘Let us lie in wait for the righteous man,
because he is inconvenient to us and opposes our actions;
he reproaches us for sins against the law,
and accuses us of sins against our training.
Let us see if his words are true,
and let us test what will happen at the end of his life;
for if the righteous man is God’s child, he will help him,
and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries.
Let us test him with insult and torture,
so that we may find out how gentle he is,
and make trial of his forbearance.
Let us condemn him to a shameful death,
for, according to what he says, he will be protected.’

“Let us lie in wait for the righteous man…he is inconvenient to us”. Is this what happens to good people, in our world?

“According to what he says, he will be protected”. Does God look after the virtuous? Can you think of a time you have seen this firsthand?

Now listen as  the passage is read once more. What is it saying to you today?

Finally, see if you can sum up all that you have been feeling during this time, and express it in the form of a prayer to God.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
