Saturday Examen for the feast of St Ignatius Loyola

  • Take a moment to become still…settle yourself into a comfortable position….notice how you are feeling as you enter into prayer…and where this feeling rests in your body…

  • Spend some time letting God look at you with great love…

  • Today is the feast of St Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the spirituality we pray with on Pray As You Go.  Without St Ignatius and his spiritual exercises, Pray As You Go wouldn’t exist as it does! … Take a moment to look back with the Lord on your own experience of prayer and spirituality… perhaps with Pray As You Go, or maybe through another encounter… Become aware of what is stirring in you as you reflect…

  • Is there a particular moment God is drawing you to remember? Notice what rises to the surface naturally… don’t try and force anything…

  • Where do you feel a lightness of heart or a sense of joy as you look back at your prayer journey? Again, notice what arises naturally…

  • Do you notice niggles or tensions; frustrations or pain?

  • Looking towards the journey ahead, what would you like to ask God for, in order to refresh your prayer and spirituality?

  • We finish today by praying the Suscipe, a prayer popularised by St Ignatius:

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
my memory, my understanding,
and my entire will,
All I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.

Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me.
