Saturday Examen: St Thomas

Today, as we celebrate the feast of St Thomas, we will be reflecting back on the moments of belief, and unbelief, in our own lives.

Take a moment to become still…settling your body into a comfortable position…becoming aware of your surroundings… and finally, imagine Jesus appearing in the room, as he once did to the disciples, and Thomas…

Cast your mind over your own journey of belief in God… does a significant moment surface for you? Perhaps when you first believed? Or a moment of refreshed belief…

We tend to judge Thomas for his lack of belief… We sometimes forget that in this moment, Thomas was grieving. Have there been any moments like this in your own life? A moment when something hindered your belief, or caused you to doubt? Try not to judge whatever comes up… you might like to invite the Lord to sit with you in this memory…

Now as you prepare to take leave of Jesus, is there a gesture or a word you would like to use, to express your belief in him… take a moment to do this now.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
