Sunday 9 May

Today is Sunday the 9 May, beginning the Sixth week of Easter.  

The community of Taizé sing, Jésus le Christ:  ‘Jesus Christ, inner light, do not let my darkness speak to me.  Jesus Christ, inner light, let me welcome your love.’  

The reading this weekend is from the first letter of John.  

1 John 4:7-10  

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

God’s love is a light that shines like a beacon, casting light to guide the way of Jesus with compassion and hope. Are you aware of Gods’ great love in yourself?  

How do you express God’s love to others?  

Do those around you experience the love of God through you and the way you live your life?  

Hear the reading again with the ears of someone who is unconditionally loved by God.  

God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, that we might live…. How could you and your community express this love in a society that seems to have forgotten the true meaning of love? Talk to God about all this…  

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
