Today is Wednesday the 14 April in the Second Week of Easter.
The monks of the Abbey of Keur Moussa sing Aveugle de Coeur: “Blind in heart since my birth, I come to you, Light of the world…. Let me live as a child of light” As I listen, I ask the Lord to open my eyes to what he wants me to see. I ask God to shine his light into my life.
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.
John 3:16-21
Jesus said to Nicodemus: "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God."
Jesus is not about darkness, but light; not about death, but about life. Do you really believe this? What does this mean to you?
'Those who do what is true come to the light.’ Is there anyone you can think of like that, someone who is just transparently holy, authentic, a person of truth?
In this passage, Jesus is speaking about truth and honesty. God appears harsh only when we are trying to hide. Listen again to what Jesus says, and ask yourself: is there any area in your life where you are kidding yourself, and trying to kid God, about what’s really going on?
Spend some time now with Jesus, as Nicodemus did, asking to be led into God’s truth and light.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
