The Conversion of St Paul

Today is Monday the 25 January, the feast of the Conversion of St Paul.

Salt of the Sound sing ‘Unveil my eyes’.

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Mark.

Mark 16:15-18

And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.’

Today, we hear the commission of Jesus to his disciples after his resurrection. Can you imagine how it might have felt for the first disciples to have heard these bold instructions and promises?

Jesus tells his disciples to proclaim the good news, not only to people, but to the whole creation… Picture for a moment the part of creation around you…. the people who live there…where do you see the need for this good news here? Talk to God about the people and things that come to mind.

As you hear the reading again, is there a word or phrase stays with you?

“These signs will accompany those who believe, by using my name…” Take a while in your prayer to simply focus just on Jesus’ name. What might his commission be for you?

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
