Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August 2020

This weekend is Saturday the 22 and Sunday the 23 August, beginning the 21st week of Ordinary Time.

The monks of the Abbey of Keur Moussa sing: O all you works of the Lord, O bless the Lord, To him be highest glory and praise for ever.

The motto of the Jesuits is: ‘For the greater glory of God’. It points to the fact that everything we do, everything we have and everything we are, indeed everything in creation, exists to reflect the glory of God. You might like to hold this in mind as we hear this weekend’s reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans.

Romans 11:33-36

O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgements and how inscrutable his ways!
‘For who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counsellor?’
‘Or who has given a gift to him,
to receive a gift in return?’
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory for ever. Amen.

God is beyond our understanding.... But Jesus told us where to search for God. If we search, God will reveal himself to us. Do you feel the presence of God in your life?  If so, what does it feel like?

Does God sometimes seem absent from your life? What are those  moments like?

As you listen again to the reading, can you say with confidence like St Paul “All that exists comes from him; all is by him and for him.”?

You too come from God. Talk to the God who formed you in the womb about whatever is on your mind.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
