Friday 5 June

Today is Friday the 5 June, in the Ninth Week of Ordinary Time.

Luke Parker sings, ‘Sweet surrender’.

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Mark.

Mark 12:35-37

While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, "How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David? David himself, by the Holy Spirit, declared, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet."’ David himself calls him Lord; so how can he be his son?" And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.

Imagine the scene in this Gospel.  Jesus is teaching a large crowd of people.  See yourself there, listening to Jesus.  The crowd are delighting in him and his words.  What is it like to be there with them?  How does it feel?

What do you notice about Jesus as he teaches?  How does he seem to you?

As you listen to this scene again, stay with the images in your imagination and notice how you react, how you feel towards Jesus.

Imagine now that Jesus has finished teaching. The crowd have gone.  You are alone there with Jesus.  Take some time to speak to him. What do you want to say to him about how you feel about him, or about your life?

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.
