Wednesday 15 May 2024

Today is Wednesday 15th May, in the 7th week of Eastertide.

The monks of Pluscarden Abbey sing Ecce quam bonum: “ How good and how pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity! It is like precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.”

Ecce quam bonum et quam jucundum, habitare fratres in unum!
Sicut unguentum in capite, quod descendit in barbam, barbam Aaron,
quod descendit in oram vestimenti ejus;
sicut ros Hermon, qui descendit in montem Sion.
Quoniam illic mandavit Dominus benedictionem, et vitam usque in saeculum.

Today’s reading is from the Acts of the Apostles.

Acts 20:28-30

"Keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son. I know that after I have gone, savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Some even from your own group will come distorting the truth in order to entice the disciples to follow them."

Jesus, in the Last Supper, also called for unity, over division, and here Paul calls for people to protect their flock. Who are your flock?

When there are tensions between those close to you, how do you deal with them?

How would you express to those you care about how much they mean to you?

Let's hear the reading again..

What gifts from the Lord would you like to better help those you care about? What prayer would you like to say to God about this?

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
