Today is Friday the 6th of June, in the Seventh Week of Easter.

The community of Taizé sing, “Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.”

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.

Today’s gospel takes place on the shore of the Lake of Tiberias.  Some of the apostles had fished all night.  They caught nothing.  Imagine for a moment what that night was like...

At dawn, Jesus appeared and urged them to try again.  They do so and get a big catch.  Now, after breakfast by the lake shore, Jesus speaks to Peter.   Peter has not seen Jesus since that dreadful time when he denied he knew him.   Imagine you are there.  What do you notice?

Listen again to the gospel:  Jesus knows that Peter still loves him.  Hear him encourage Peter to admit it as he says to him, “Simon Peter, do you love me?”  Hear Peter blurt out – “Lord, you know I really love you.”

Allow Jesus to ask you the same questions he asked Peter: Do you love me?    Feed my sheep.

What feelings arise in you?  (pause)   How do you reply to Jesus’s question, and to his invitation?
