Today is Tuesday of Holy Week, the 15th of April.

Once I set my eyes upon you, I knew there was no turning back…

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.

Imagine the place, the faces, the intense peace and joy of this moment. Jesus gathered with his disciples. They love him and they are expecting so much.

Listen to what he says. How can he break the atmosphere with this prophecy of betrayal?

Contemplate the person and figure of Judas.  The dark mystery of betrayal that somehow makes sense to him. Who is he really serving? What does he teach us?

And Peter. He stands in contrast with Judas. He is so generous and so confident. Yet he too will deny him. He does not yet know or admit to his weakness and his fear. Hearing it again, Christ’s knowledge is not rejection but love and understanding.

To bring the prayer to its end, speak to Jesus from your own heart. What is it that you want to say to him?
